Matt: So when you see somebody that’s not progressing in their career as quickly as they want to be, where do you think there’s usually a hang-up?
Rafael: What I’ve seen in my experience is that there’s no alignment between the person they really want to become over time and why that is important to them, to the kind of goals they set for themselves.
A lot of people are just cruising, right? Doing things because it’s kind of a rat race. We’ve all been there, me included.
And I think that a lot of people do things because they’re supposed to be doing those things at that stage in their lives, instead of saying, “You know what, in five years, if I look back, what am I going to be feeling proud of? How would I like people around me to talk about me?”
When you start thinking about those questions, you start designing the person you want to become and your goals adjust immediately to that. But that exercise is very important to them.
