Black Nutritionists You Need to Know

by admin

Looking for a Black dietitian or nutritionist near you? Here’s an updated list of African-American Registered Dietitians in private practice I refer to.

  • You can work with these RDs virtually (online) or maybe one-day in-person for nutrition counseling and coaching.
  • They cover a variety of health needs from weight loss to diabetes and gut health and general wellness. Some accept insurance.
  • Some are also dietitian bloggers. I’ve included their Instagram and websites so you can get to know more about their personal and professional style.

What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

To earn the registered dietitian credential, you can rest assured that the person has completed an accredited college program focused on nutrition and nutrition science and passed a national board exam. Plus we have to keep up with the science for ongoing continuing education requirements.

Often you will see dietitians call themselves nutritionists. This is fine because all dietitians are nutritionists but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians.

The term nutritionist is not protected. Literally, anyone can wake up and call themselves a nutritionist. So be sure to do your research.

But the people I’m recommending are all credentialed and fabulous! They can relate to you and are sensitive to your needs as a Black woman. I know them in real life and I’m happy to refer you!

Black Dietitians I recommend

Marisa Moore, MBA. RDN. LD.

I am available for virtual cooking demos, media requests, recipe development, speaking, spokesperson work, and consulting. I plan to offer more 1:1 nutrition consults beginning summer 2021.

To work with me, simply shoot me an email at marisa@marisamoore.com.

Vanessa Rissetto, MS, RD, CDN, Founder, Culina Health

I love Vanessa’s upbeat and straightforward approach to nutrition and wellness. She and the team at Culina Health offer holistic nutrition coaching including help with weight loss and weight management, heart cardiovascular disease, and disordered eating. And they take insurance! Give Vanessa a follow on Instagram to get a sense of her personality and book your first session with one of the RDs at Culina Health!

Connect with Vanessa over at Culina Health.

Basheerah Enahora, MBA. MS. RD. LDN.

Basheerah is a holistic- focused registered dietitian. Her practice is open and currently seeing clients virtually for 1:1 and group sessions. She might even accept insurance so be sure to ask. She regularly shows up on Instagram with simple recipes and health tips.

Connect with Basheerah and book your discovery call.

Jerlyn Jones, MS. RDN. LD.

Of all the dietitians on the list, I’ve probably spent the most one on one time with Jerlyn. She takes a holistic approach to health and healing and is a Certified LEAP Therapist.

Learn more about Jerlyn and set an appointment.

Jessica Jones, MS. RD. CDE

Jessica is a registered dietitian nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Educator in private practice and half of the Food Heaven Made Easy duo. She is a Health at Every Size Dietitian and I know you’ll love working with Jessica. If you are looking for a culturally inclusive approach to wellness, check her out.

I’ll be back to update this list soon!
