On Friday, January 15, Region of Waterloo Public Health held its COVID-19 community update.

During the briefing, the region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang mentioned if COVID-19 cases and hospitalization continue to trend upwards, the healthcare system will see a significant impact.

“That’s why we have to do everything we can, this our chance with the enhanced lockdown measures, so my plea is for everyone in our region to take this opportunity to slow the spread so we can get this under control.”

Dr. Wang added she still has faith in Waterloo Region residents to do the right thing, “we’ve been able to turn this around before, we can do it again.”

“I do know overall in Ontario, and in Waterloo Region, it has been the same, not everyone has seen it as being as serious in the second wave as they saw it in the first, but I think it’s very clear now, it’s very serious.”
