Volunteers needed: Health DG calling for medical professionals to help battle the Covid-19 pandemic

PETALING JAYA: The Health director-general is calling medical professionals to volunteer their services to assist in battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said these volunteers are very much needed to alleviate the burden faced by governemt medical healthcare workers throughout the country.

He issued the call with an advertisement on Twitter on Thursday (May 27), saying medical officers, dental officers, assistant medical officers, nurses, environmental health officers, assistant environmental health officers, and lab technicians were needed.

“This volunteer service is open to those aged 18 to 60, and is physically and mentally healthy and fit,” he said.

He said women who are not pregnant can join while volunteers who are employed must also obtain approval from their employers first.

They must also not be employees under the Health Ministry and must be willing to serve at required locations as well as must not have had a Covid-19 close contact case in the last 14 days.

Under the volunteer programme, it noted that the ministry will also not be providing any transportation, lodging, food, or allowances.

“All costs during the volunteer period would be borne by the individual themselves, ” it said.
